Merger waves in defense industries are calculated and the wealth effects are examined using event-study methodology. After examining the timing of merger waves the findings suggest that terrorist attacks do not have significant impacts on defense industries. Rather, the Arms Export Controls Act and the Base Realignment and Closure Commissions are the driving forces behind merger waves in the defense industries. Using Harford (2005) methodology, the first wave is from 1996-1999 and the second wave is from 2005-2011. Post-merger performance is significantly negative in both the short-term and long-term.
