Study High School needed to increase the graduation rate by approximately 2% every year for the next eight years to meet federal Race to the Top requirements. The study focused solely on creating a transition program that led to the improvement of the educational environment in an ongoing effort to improve performance and the successful transition of ninth grade students to high school. Ninth grade students were studied exclusively. The Tiger Transition Program was an original idea implemented to give ninth grade students the opportunity to make connections with high school faculty members and upperclassmen so that students felt included in a new and unfamiliar situation. At Study High School, the graduation rate was at 80.5% (two year average). After the intervention was conducted and data was analyzed with both a chi square and t-test. It was evident the Tiger Transition Program did not improve the educational environment for ninth graders.
