The purpose of this project was to propose an adolescent support group promoting positive identity development for high school students. A review of the research demonstrated that adolescents suffer significantly from the consequences of stress and that chronic stress may lead to psychological, behavioral, and academic problems (Laursen and Mooney, 2008; Noland, Price, Dake, & Telljohann, 2009; Salmela-Aro, Kiuru, Pietikainen, & Jokela, 2008; Wilburn & Smith, 2005). This paper summarized the literature that demonstrated the appropriateness of integrating aspects of psychodrama and improvisational theater to provide opportunities for youth to engage in shared inquiry, personal expression, and mutual support. The proposed drama therapy group, presented in this paper, was designed to assist adolescents to examine their personal and peer relationships and behavioral choices through the medium of role play. The all-encompassing purpose of the proposed program is to enhance adolescent self-esteem and to facilitate healthy relationships and lifestyle choices.
