This purpose of this quantitative study was to explore the relationship between gender identity and job satisfaction among a sample of female police officers from varying departments across the nation (N=100). The sample included a high number of women in leadership positions and with longer lengths of service. The data collection instrument used was an online survey that included the Bem Sex Role Inventory (BSRI), and the Job Descriptive Index (JDI) and Job in General (JIG) scales. Statistical analysis was used to investigate correlations between demographic variables, gender identity, and varying facets of job satisfaction. A one-way MANOVA indicated a statistically significant correlation between having a masculine gender identity and lower levels of job satisfaction. The findings and conclusion of this study suggest the need for further exploration of both masculine and feminine policewomen, and the additional need for greater numbers of lower ranking and less experienced policewomen in the study samples.
