Thesis (M.A.)--Sotheby's Institute of Art - New York, 2013.
Art, science, and technology are three major arenas in which cultural revolution can take place, and the intersection of these fields serves as fertile ground for innovation. Artists can complement scientific research with a creative bend, and new technologies can supply the arts with ample opportunities to diversify and grow. The explosive expansions of the internet and related technologies have allowed connections between creators and their audiences to be forged much more readily, while the technologies themselves become part of the resultant artwork. This thesis explores this new creative culture and, more specifically, the platforms and means of dissemination that fuel its existence. Case studies of these platforms will illuminate the strengths and weaknesses of certain models that serve the art and technology community and will evidence their departures from traditional art world paths.
