Hand and wrist rehabilitation

Current traumatic pathologies of the wrist -- Lesions of the radio-ulnar unity -- Recent fractures of the scaphoid bone -- Sprains of the scapholunate ligament -- Recent fractures of the inferior extremity of the radius -- Osseous and capsulo-ligamentous lesions of the hand and thumb -- Sprains of the metacarpophalangeal joint of the thumb -- Fractures of the metacarpals and phalanges -- Capsulo-ligamentous lesions of the proximal interphalangeal joint -- Tendinous lesions of the hand -- Lesions of the extensor tendons -- Lesions of the flexor tendons -- Amputations -- Digital amputations -- Canal syndromes -- Canal syndromes of the median nerve -- Canal syndromes of the ulnar nerve -- Canal syndromes of the radial nerve -- Other current pathologies of the hand -- Dupuytren disease -- Complex regional pain syndrome -- Protocols.
This work demonstrates that hand and wrist rehabilitation calls for precise anatomical, biomechanical, and physiological expertise, as well as mastery of manual techniques and targeted physiotherapy. Particular attention is given to the complementarity between theoretical knowledge and practical aspects; accordingly, refreshers on the underlying theory; descriptions of the rehabilitation protocols and the specific manual and instrumental techniques; and the type of orthesis used depending on the delay of healing are provided for each pathology. This publication will appeal to a broad readership, from physiotherapists and occupational therapists, to surgeons and practitioners specialized in physical rehabilitation, to students in the fields of physiotherapy and occupational therapy.
