The primary purpose of this study was to determine the correlation between the use of hypnosis and the level of improvement individuals would see in their golf handicap index. Secondary to that was the correlation between hypnotic ability and the level of improvement individuals would experience in their golf scores while using hypnosis. This investigation took place at four golf courses in the Mid-west. This was a 3 month investigation (12 weeks) at each of these courses. The sample included 23 participants in the experimental group and 36 participants in the blind-control group. The experimental group was then broken up into three groups: very mildly/non-hypnoidal state, mildly hypnotizable, moderately hypnotizable. This investigation found statistically significant data at the .04 level when comparing the results of the combined experimental groups with the control group. Although there were slight variations between the experimental groups and the level of improvement they saw in their golf game, there was no statistically significant data between the experimental groups. The findings of this study suggest that hypnotic ability does make a difference in the level of improvement an individual will see in their golf performance.
