Thesis (M.A.)--State University of New York at Binghamton, 2011.
Extraction industries articulate specific formulations of systems which are amenable to their interests, and definitively opposed to local needs. These are disciplinary articulations which advance the goals of profit extraction, and undermine the ability of local communities to protect the material and immaterial conditions of their continued survival. These formulations of the relations amongst beings are locally demobilizing, and jeopardize the wellbeing of human and non-human communities globally. This work is not an intervention on the level of representation, but on the material, extant, and enacted productions and reproductions of alternate modes of being. Blurring the distinction between matter and cognition, being and knowledge, positions us well for an exploration of Participatory Action Research as a method to analyze and productively engage difference through fundamentally collaborative productions and interventions in/of knowledge/being.
