Thesis (M.A.)--Southeastern Louisiana University, 2012.
This paper is to examine parricide homicide in Chicago from 1965 to 1995. One purpose of this paper is to verify previous literatures about the relationship between parricide and gender, age, weapon, motivation, and relationship to victim in the City of Chicago. In addition, this study compares these demographic factors of parricide with those of non-parricide to identify the differences between these two types of homicide. Furthermore, this paper intends to analyze how social disorganization and social deprivation on parricide by using Chicago parricide data. However, this paper does not intend to examine parricide from individual level. Therefore, the details of mental illness and antisocial personality are not investigated in this paper. Moreover, GIS Mapping technique is used in this study. Maps are made to illustrate parricide distributions visually. In addition, domestic violence shelters and services institutions are located on maps to compare parricide frequency around these intuitions. To my knowledge, this had never been done before. Overall, the purpose of this study is to gain a better understanding of the phenomenon of parricide from macro level.
