Thesis (Ph.D.)--The University of Texas at San Antonio, 2013.
A phenomenological research approach was used to gain new understanding about death related sensory experiences (DRSEs) and the meaning professional counselors ascribe to them. 10 professional counselors were interviewed. Moustakas' analysis method was used to ascertain results. Themes and sub-themes developed from analysis of research include: Transcendent Experiences, Need to Leave, Personalized Companionship, Communication with Unseens, Positive Comfort, Process of Understanding, Integration. Implications for professional practice and counselor education were discussed. Recommendations for future research were provided.
