520 $a These works deal with the small, select group of animals we humans have domesticated. My aim here was to create representations emphasizing each animal's particular utility, as opposed to offering actual fur and feather depictions. Accordingly, I chose to concentrate on some of the processes and equipment associated with livestock as a means of inviting thought and reflection about this particular human/animal relationship.
520 $a This project evolved out of my long held interest in domestic animals and ultimately became a struggle to integrate subject matter with various media. Questions about our treatment of these creatures were many, but satisfactory answers were elusive, so in the work, I sought to raise concerns in the viewers mind without necessarily spelling out specific judgments.
