Thesis (Ph.D.)--Capella University, 2013.
It is not known how and to what extent perceived leadership style influences instructional methods. The purpose of this study was to examine teachers' perceptions of the principal's leadership style and the relationship it has with the choice of instructional methods. This quantitative study utilized the MLQ 5x short and an online survey tool for data collection. Additionally, the study focused on identifying leaders who would be considered more transformational and the impact this has on instructional methods. The study took place in three secondary schools in a South Atlantic state of the United States. The data showed several themes: the Pearson correlation values varied and Marzano influenced instructional methods were similar. The trend also showed that leadership that was perceived as being more transformational had a strong positive Pearson correlation between the two variables. However, more data is needed on leadership perception and instruction and serves as the basis for implications and future research.
