There is a problem with stress and the nursing profession. Studies indicated that stress is a contributor to high nurse turnover in organizations and the desire of nurses to leave the nursing profession. Managerial nurses have the highest turnover rate in the nursing profession. Few research articles dedicated to improving nurses' self-perceived stress, as a means to reducing stress, exist. In this study, a quantitative study method was used to investigate the relationship between nurses' self-perceptions of stress and stress management education as a part of an organizational wellness initiative. Using a non-random convenience sampling method, the researcher recruited 109 participants for this quasi-experimental non-experimental group designed study (NEGD). Self-perceptions of stress were measured using Cohen's Perceived Stress Scale before and after half of the group received an educational intervention. The intended goal was that this intervention could lead to decreased levels of self-perceived stress in participants. Self-perceived stress scores indicated that nurses have moderately high self-perceived stress. Perceived stress scores indicated that nurses working in managerial positions have a slightly higher level of self-perceived stress than nurses working in non-managerial positions. Findings also indicated that organizations implementing workplace programs aimed at stress management could decrease the self-perception of stress in nurses employed by them. Further exploration into the impact of stress on nurses and methods of managing stress in nursing is recommended.
