Thesis (D.C.S.)--Colorado Technical University, 2013.
Using an exploratory model of the 9/11 terrorists, this research investigates the linkages between Event Driven Business Process Management (edBPM) and decision making. Although the literature on the role of technology in efficient and effective decision making is extensive, research has yet to quantify the benefit of using edBPM to aid the decision making process. This research attempts to redress this situation by examining and integrating the role of edBPM in producing smarter decisions. It examines IT literature, develops a methodology for creating an edBPM based conceptual model and presents results from a new study to determine a risk profile for visitors entering the United States. The findings show that edBPM is an effective technology in detecting travel patterns, learning new patterns, and preventing high-risk travelers from entering the U.S. and adds value to the immigration official's decision making capabilities.
