Thesis (M.A.)--California State University, Fresno, 2013.
In this thesis I explore the structure and function of four Chukchansi particles, using the split-CP system proposed by Rizzi (1997) and the basic syntactic structure of the language as analyzed by Rhodes (2013). Collord (1968) classifies these particles as one group, but this thesis shows that they are not a homogeneous set. Of the original five in the group, one is no longer part of the lexicon, three are particles in the left periphery, and one is a particle exhibiting a different distribution than the rest. This analysis provides a clearer picture of the functions of these particles in the language. It also tests the validity of Rizzi's (1997) left periphery and Rhodes's (2013) analysis of syntactic scrambling in Chukchansi.
