Knowledge has become a valued asset in organizations today. The literature argued the values and benefits it can bring to an organization. As a consequence, the field of knowledge management has emerged. The increase and use of intellectual capital can mean the difference between success and failure in some organizations. In small & medium-sized businesses (SMBs), these organizations lack the funding and head count necessary to generate and capture knowledge like large enterprises. Because of this, they are at higher risk in losing their knowledge assets when employees leave. However, SMBs can still practice knowledge management and mitigate this risk. A solution model is suggested for SMBs to capture their knowledge assets and use it to minimize costs and gain a strategic advantage to conduct business among their peers. The heterogeneous framework was developed in consideration of the characteristics of SMBs and it is meant as a high-level framework for organizations to build upon existing infrastructure and business processes in order to capture knowledge.
