Thesis (M.A.)--The University of Texas at San Antonio, 2013.
The purpose of this case study was to examine the effects of blogging as it relates to acquisition of academic language (language knowledge) and understanding of academic concepts (concept knowledge) for young English Language Learners. Data analysis focuses on responses of two Math prompts given to the participants seven months apart in order to examine any changes that may have occurred over time. Data analysis involves descriptive statistics and analysis of language produced with the aid of a rubric designed by the researcher. The findings indicate that using blogs as a tool to supplement classroom instruction was beneficial to the participants as they showed improvements in both, acquisition of academic language and understanding of academic concepts for the topics that were addressed through blogging assignments.
