Halal tourism as an alternative to mass tourism for Muslim tourists has grown significantly in the last decade. The increased interest has led researchers to begin to focus their research on Halal tourism. Halal tourism is a tourism activity by Muslims that originate from Islamic motivations and are realized according to Shariah principles (Duman 2011). However, there is very limited empirical research that has examined the potential of Sharia Compliant Hotel (SCH), from the perspective of potential Muslim tourists. For example very little is known about their needs and wants. The purpose of this study is to gain an understanding of Halal tourism. More specifically, it investigates the relationship between a personal factor, religiosity, and intention to stay at Sharia Compliant Hotel using the revised theory of planned behavior. It is to understand how various potential Halal tourists' beliefs, including attitudes, subjective norms, perceived behavior control and religiosity, influence their future intention of choosing Sharia Compliant Hotel using the revised theory of planned behavior. Moreover, the potential moderating effect of past SCH experience was examined as well. The study collected data from 290 potential Sharia Compliant Hotel seekers in Atlanta GA, U.S. Data are analyzed using first and second order confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation modeling. The results of structural equation modeling indicate that attitudes, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control are statistically significant in predicting the intended choice of SCH as travel destination by potential Muslim tourists. The results also indicate that Islamic religiosity overall predict intention; however none of the factors of religiosity by themselves can predict intention for the reason of multicollinearity.

520 $a Finally, the results also indicate that when controlling for the three components of the Theory of Planned Behavior, there is a positive indirect effect (mediation) of US Muslims religiosity and intended choice of SCH as travel destination. The three components of the TPB (attitudes, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control) positively mediate the relationship between an individuals' religiosity and his/her intention to choose SCH as travel destination.
