Thesis (M.A.)--Kean University, 2013.
Demographic and environmental factors have been found to influence moral reasoning and moral judgment. In this study, severity of moral judgment was measured and compared by gender and socioeconomic status (SES). Sixty nine undergraduate and graduate participants completed a demographic survey and rated a set of moral vignettes. No significant correlation was found between SES or gender and moral vignette responses. Significant differences were found across moral vignettes. In particular, participants rated the Resume vignette and Taxes vignette more severely than the Stock Tip and Illegal Lunch vignettes. Future research on moral development should focus on allowing participants to express their moral reasoning as they make moral judgments.
