This study examined some of the factors associated with overuse injury among piano students. One of the intentions of this study was to investigate the prevalence of overuse injury among piano students in the Edmonton, Alberta area.

520 $a Piano student volunteers were recruited from post-secondary institutions in the Edmonton area. The subjects' right hand characteristics were measured and they were interviewed to determine their practice characteristics.
520 $a Fifty-four subjects were analyzed and an overuse injury rate of 53.7% was determined.
520 $a The results did not show any association between right hand characteristics and overuse injury, except male hand stretch which was a factor that might protect against overuse injury. The habit of practicing through pain was significantly higher for the overuse group of piano students. (Abstract shortened by UMI.).
