Tourism has been claimed as significantly contributing to greenhouse gas emissions, and though most travelers show their concern about destination environment, they have not shown much inclination to reduce their personal carbon footprint. The goal of this study was to (i) examine the antecedents of travelers' attitude towards green behavior in destination; (ii) apply the theory of planned behavior to explain travelers' green behavior in destination and examine the sufficiency of daily green practices added to the Theory of Planned Behavior; (iii) the moderating effects of personal norms and the individualism-collectivism cultural dimension on the relationships between the attitude antecedents and travelers' attitude towards green behavior in destination. The findings in this study show that travelers' environmental awareness of consequences has positive relationship with their ascription of responsibility to perform green behavior in destination; the ascription of responsibility, environmental knowledge, and the destination residents' green practices are good antecedents of travelers' attitudes towards green behaviors in destination; both attitude and perceived behavioral control were found to significantly predict travelers' behavioral intentions to perform green behavior in destination which in turn leads to their actual green behavior in destination; travelers' daily green practices were found to have positive relationship with travelers' behavioral intentions and actual green behavior in destination. However, subjective norms were not valid for predicting travelers' attitudes towards green behaviors in traveling. The moderating examination found that travelers with low level personal norms and individualist travelers need more ascription of responsibility to activate positive attitude; travelers with low level of personal norms need more evidences from local residents to support their positive attitude; environmental knowledge showed significant positive influences on travelers' attitude in all situations, and this relationship is moderated by any of the moderators. Theoretical and practical implications are discussed, further studies are recommended for future research and practical implications are suggested for destination governments and operators for adopting effective strategies and practices to encourage travelers' green behaviors in destination. Limitations in this study are also addressed.
