This thesis contains the details of how to build a tunable external cavity diode laser system with a stable single mode output and a fixed direction. A tunable output is achieved using a diffraction grating and a finely controlled external cavity, which keeps its length variation at the nanometer level. These details include the introduction of each electrical device, machine drawings for the parts to be prepared, and instructions for assembling each part as well as for tuning the output. It also illustrates how to align the original diverging laser diode output and how to measure the linewidth of the laser with an oscilloscope and Fabry-Perot interferometer.
