Thesis (M.A.)--Sotheby's Institute of Art - New York, 2013.
The objective of this thesis is to examine the nature of commercial galleries in relation to museums. Upon examination, this study finds that the gallery in comparison to the museum operates in an informal nature. Therefore, this study places the museum as a role model to the gallery. A foundation of museum operations is presented, specifically addressing their approach to audience and revenue. This foundation is explored in order to align with gallery operations, posing areas of management where the gallery may learn from the museum. This study culminates in a variety of proposals, recommending the gallery take a self-critical view in their offerings and approach to audience.
