The art and knowledge of navigation has been revitalized and going strong in Hawaii for over 35 years. It is something that every Hawaiian can indeed to be proud of. As time passed, and with the advancement of technology, we can take a look at what the leaders of the past have done to advance this movement, and we can find our role in adding to the foundation they set.

520 $a Chapter 1 summarizes the system and history of modern navigation in Hawaii. Chapter 2 analyzes the 14 sources of star knowledge researched for this paper, and how they relate to ancient and modern navigation practices. Chapter 3 summarizes and charts the knowledge analyzed in Chapter 2 while providing a comparison to modern star usage. Chapter 4 gives examples of new navigation knowledge that is being created at certain educational sites.
