Thesis (Ed.D.)--Hofstra University, 2013.
This transdisciplinary study about the contestation of the word genocide was a result of deep discourse analysis of historical documents, poetry, works of fiction, plays, novels, and the social studies curriculum of New York State. In it, I hoped to create an understanding of genocide that improves the way genocide is taught in schools. My findings were that by using alternative texts, students gain greater insights to the history of genocide, and ways to respond to genocide and mass atrocities.
