Thesis (Psy.D.)--Alliant International University, 2012.
This paper examines the skills that are needed for high school teachers to build Teacher Interpersonal Competence (TIC) with black male students. This paper examined interpersonal competence skills (using a mentor/mentee relationship framework), effective teaching skills, and cultural competency techniques [culturally responsive instruction (CRI) framework]. In addition, an urban school district mentoring program orientation guide was analyzed to determine applicable use for teachers. Distilling the necessary skills from the three aforementioned frameworks in order to enhance the mentoring program manual for use by teachers is discussed. A revised orientation manual for use by teachers was developed.
