The purpose of this study was to extend understanding of efficacy of mandala drawing among inpatients and to examine a potential use of mandala as a clinical tool. The study examined a relationship between mandala drawings and emotional changes among adult psychiatric inpatients. In this study, quantitative outcomes from twelve participants and qualitative analysis were described. The sample population consisted of nine male and three female with different diagnoses and each with different experiences in inpatient psychiatric unit as an inpatient. Results showed that twelve participants showed emotional changes after mandala creation; increased positive emotions and reduced negative emotions exhibited. The results suggested that mandala drawing as a therapeutic intervention could broaden the use of mandala drawings in a psychiatric setting, and this therapeutic intervention could help staff provide a best care for patients in a humanistic manner as well.
