Thesis (M.F.A.)--Long Island University, The Brooklyn Center, 2013.
I first learned about writing and poetry during the 1950s and came of age during the 1960s. Outside of my first published poem on my school hat and a poem on the death of Kennedy, I did little serious writing until my mid-50s. At that time, through a variety of circumstances, I found myself getting an MFA in Creative Writing. So, during my own 50s and 60s, I have struggled to become a writer of both poetry and fiction. This thesis is a manifestation of those struggles. I have divided this work into six sections: five are poetry (self-reflection, love, playing, politics, and melancholy) and the sixth is fiction. All the work has been written during my time as a graduate student in the MFA program. The work itself is a compilation of my experimentation with form and my exploration of (for lack of a better term) what's inside me that wants to come out.
