As the space industry increasingly evolves from one dominated by governments and their military establishments to one which is undergoing rapid commercialization across a wide number of areas, there is a need for a business perspective on the industry. Tracing its origins from the middle of the twentieth century as a government and military domain, the authors look at the ongoing evolution of space exploration and travel, and forecast what might happen in the industry. As the impact of climate change and resource� constraints make terrestrial survival for the human species increasingly problematic, the need to develop the means of evacuating Planet Earth and sustaining extraterrestrial human existence becomes critical.
