In the spring semester of 2003, e-mail messages were sent to international students two times to ask participation in the survey. As a result, 107 international students at Utah State University completed the survey. The survey consisted of 78 questions that asked perceived stress, perceived health status, and demographic information. It took approximately 10 to 20 minutes to complete.

The majority of participants reported moderate stress and more positive health status. Data analysis found that perceived discrimination, homesickness, perceived hate, fear, stress due to changes/culture shock, and miscellaneous correlated similarly to perceived stress. Also, inverse correlation between stress and perceived health was found to be statistically significant among participants, and this finding was consistent with other literature of different sample groups.

In conclusion, international students who participated in the present study were not free from stress. They have been experiencing a moderate level of stress, perceiving their health more positively than negatively. Inverse strong correlation between stress and perceived health status indicated further preventive measures are needed to assist international students at Utah State University.
