This study evaluated the effectiveness of the educational software lesson, Fish Town Z-1, for improving students' ability to identify community problems from a given scenario. The research design was single group pretest posttest. A paired t-test showed some improvement from pretest to posttest for the group; however, it was not statistically significant. Because of differences observed in the testing environment for the two classes, further analysis was undertaken. A paired t-test for Class B (n = 15), where the testing environment was less controlled, showed a nonsignificant decrease. A paired t-test for Class A (n = 16) showed a statistically significant improvement. The findings from Class A support the expectation that students' ability to identify problems improves after using the Fish Town Z-1 software.*
