This study's aim is to show how the propaganda techniques and topical references are distributed on a frequency scale. Proposed is the idea of concordance between the ideological "importance" of given ideology topic and the number of ideologically charged lexicon it generates. The intentions of this dissertation are as follows. First, to analyze how the presumed purpose of written material (texts in a language textbook published in the former USSR) influences the frequency of propaganda techniques and topical references. Second, to establish if there is a relation between textbook level and the quantity of ideology lexis introduced. Third, to find how the quantity of ideologically charged lexicon is regulated by ideological topics.

The material consists of twenty-four textbooks of Russian varying in level of student advancement, from beginning to advanced. The lexis of ideology is tabulated following the guidelines (six different propaganda techniques) suggested by the Institute for Propaganda Analysis (1938). The study establishes the frequency of appearance of every technique per average textbook. The lexis is classified on the topical reference basis. The topical basis consists of fourteen historical as well as extemporal highlights of Soviet ideology: Revolution, World War II, etc. One of the outcomes is an overall "ideological vocabulary" (approximately fourteen hundred words). Its core part is active ideological vocabulary (estimated at one hundred thirty-four words).

The three main conclusions are: One: there is a strict concordance between the ideological "importance" of a given ideology theme and the number of ideologically charged lexicon that correspond to it. Two: the distribution of propaganda techniques on a frequency scale corresponds directly to the presumed purpose of the text, namely to create in a student's mind an acknowledgement of the advantages of socialist system. Three: the level of ideologically charged lexicon does not proportionally increase from simple to advanced Russian language textbooks.
