This paper examines the development and implementation of a pilot program for orientation, training and mentoring new faculty at the five campuses of Northern Virginia Community College (NVCC) during the 2000 to 2002 academic years when the college hired 83 new faculty members. New faculty programs and faculty development programs at two- and four-year colleges are examined to look for practices that can be incorporated into a permanent program for NVCC. The pilot new faculty program at NVCC is evaluated and a model for new faculty orientation, training and development is proposed for permanent implementation at NVCC.Subjects--Topical Terms:
