Thesis (M.S.)--D'Youville College, 1999.
This study was designed to collect range of motion data regarding the movement available in well-elderly individuals between 60 and 90 years of age at the wrist joint. The motions studied were wrist flexion, extension, ulnar, and radial deviation. Kielhofner's (1995) model of human occupation provided the conceptual framework within which these data were examined. Goniometric measurements of a sample of 75 well-elderly individuals were compared to the standards set by the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (Heck, Hendryson, & Rowe, 1965) which are currently used by occupational therapists in practice. The study provides evidence that well-elderly subjects exhibit a significant decrease in some areas of wrist joint range of motion as compared to the present norms. These results indicate the need for the development of normative range of motion data specific to the well elderly population. The results also suggest that gender and activity level affect some areas of wrist motion.
