The purpose of this study was to compare Exemplary, Recognized, and Acceptable schools, as measured by the State of Texas Accountability Rating System, to the outcomes the schools achieved from the administration of the Organizational Health Inventory. The literature review examined a historical perspective of school reform, the organizational structure of schools, the notion of high stakes testing and the concerns surrounding it, school culture and climate, and leadership in schools. The population consisted of 29 schools comprising a large suburban school district in the state of Texas. The district serves 24,684 students through 11 secondary and 18 elementary campuses. Sample schools were assigned an Accountability Rating of Exemplary, Recognized, or Acceptable by the Texas Education Agency.Subjects--Topical Terms:

The Texas Assessment of Academic Skills (TAAS) test was used as the basis to assign the Accountability Rating for each school. The Organizational Health Inventory (OHI) was used to measure ten dimensions of organizational health. Standard scores for each of the ten dimensions of organizational health, derived from the administration of the Organizational Health Inventory, were compared with the accountability rating of each school using a one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA). Tukey post hoc comparisons were used on groups when ANOVA was found to be significant. The results of the study found that in all ten dimensions of organizational health statistically significant differences existed between Exemplary and Acceptable schools. No statistically significant differences were found between Exemplary and Recognized schools on any of the ten dimensions of organizational health as measured by the Organizational Health Inventory. On the OHI dimensions of Goal Focus and Adaptation, statistically significant differences were found between Recognized and Acceptable schools.
