The variables tested were age, ACT Natural Science, ACT Math, ACT Composite, final grade point average in mortuary science and funeral service courses, experience in funeral service prior to entering mortuary school, high school rank and gender.

The subjects were graduates of the Mortuary Science and Funeral Service program in the School of Technical Careers at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, Illinois, who have taken the National Board Examination, between the years of 1982 and 1986. The total population for this study was 107. A raw data form was developed for the purpose of gathering the necessary data for the study.

The statistical techniques employed in the data analysis were: (1) Pearson-Product Correlation Coefficient, (2) multiple regression analysis with stepwise regression, (3) regression equations were determined for each independent variable, and (4) Point-Biserial Correlation Coefficient. All data were analyzed utilizing a.05 level of significance.
