Thesis (M.S.N.)--Texas Tech University, 2003.
A dating violence survey was conducted in a rural East Texas community when concerned members of the local Health Advisory Committee requested a survey for prevalence of dating violence behaviors using the 2001 Youth Risk Behavior Survey instrument. Results of the survey suggested there was a prevalence rate of 31% for physical dating violence, 14% for sexual dating violence, and 39% for physical and/or sexual dating violence. Members of ethnic minority groups reported dating violence more frequently. Results of the survey may be useful in planning health education and wellness programs. Knowledge of prevalence of dating violence may be used to increase a dialogue between nurses and adolescent patients, which may lead to early intervention.Subjects--Topical Terms:
