Leaders of major US companies delegate corporate security responsibility to security executives. Leaders of major US companies delegate corporate security responsibility to security executives. There has been little research regarding educational requirements for private security executives, or the role community colleges play in this education.
520 $a The purpose of this project is to determine the level of education attained by Fortune 500 security executives, the importance of education in their careers, and the utilization of community college security programs to develop their security officers at the journeymen level. This dissertation addresses minimum educational requirements for corporate security executives, as well as experience or educational attainment that qualifies corporate security professionals for their positions. Questionnaires, participation in six American Society for Industrial Security (ASIS) International Annual Security Academic/Practitioner Symposia, and qualitative interviews with security professionals and college professors were used to obtain data.
520 $a This dissertation reviews collegiate security education programs at each level from Associate Degree through Master's Degree. It develops information on the decline of collegiate security degree programs, and what might be done to stem the tide, including marketing the programs, using or developing online programs, and revamping existing programs. Lastly, it provides a recommended curriculum for a Security Management Associate in Applied Science Degree.
