It has become a rare occurrence for people in our society to stop and look closely at the world around them. With quick paced advertisements, television programming, video games, and the Internet, our culture is losing the ability to see the beauty in small and still details of our world. Activities such as reading, writing, and art have been overshadowed, or shall I say muted out by the “improvements” of our society. The traveling exhibit <italic> Eyes That See: Words and Photographs</italic> was written with the intent of offering viewers (especially children) a medium that allows an appreciation for still and beautiful objects through a simple story of a young girl who stares, accompanied by photographs. To achieve these goals, issues of the definition of expression, its development in young children, and interconnection of the concept of expression with art are explored.Subjects--Topical Terms:
