A positive relationship between good nutrition and cognitive ability is well established. Unfortunately, many children are not consuming adequate nutrition and therefore may not be reaching their full cognitive potential. Poor dietary habits begin early in life; thus, educating children about good nutrition is essential in establishing the groundwork necessary for a lifetime of healthy eating.

After extensive research, a comprehensive nutrition curriculum was developed addressing problem areas in the diets of young children. The curriculum revolved around a central character established as an expert in nutrition and consisted of fun, participatory activities. After being piloted in a Kindergarten classroom, the curriculum was judged to be successful in fostering such outcomes as behavior modification, decreased consumption of sweets and enhancement of knowledge. The children quickly developed a relationship with the curriculum's character and were, therefore, eager to hear her message about healthy eating.
