A two phase stress sharing model is developed and used to investigate steady fully developed flow of particulate suspensions in circular pipes. Primary attention is focused on the special cases of a dense suspension performing laminar flow and a dilute suspension with a fluid phase performing turbulent flow. A number of approximate closed form solutions are obtained based on reasonable simplifications of the governing equations. A finite difference methodology is utilized to carry out numerical simulations based on the exact equations for a variety of parametric combinations. Representative results are presented graphically and used to illustrate interesting aspects of the predictions of the present model.Subjects--Topical Terms:
