Thesis (Ph.D.)--Capella University, 2002.
This action research project explored employee usage levels for web-based training (WBT) courses in a corporate environment. The concern was that, while the corporation invested significant resources to help employees learn and develop their skills through WBT courses, employees might not access and complete these courses. Anecdotal evidence suggested that many corporations experience this problem. The research objective was to measure employee usage levels and WBT course completions, attempt to understand the factors involved, and make recommendations to increase employee participation. While reviewing data collected from multiple sources, the following themes emerged that helped focus the analysis and recommendations: acceptance of WBT, course design, management issues, site versus corporate headquarters issues, technical issues, time issues, and employee training needs.
