Thesis (Ph.D.)--Brigham Young University, 2003.
The account of Lehi's vision of the tree of life in the Book of Mormon contains many typological images. By applying the lens of literary criticism, particularly the work of Northrop Frye, it is possible to discern meanings for these types and better understand the vision as a whole. By applying the lens of educational theory, especially the work of Parker Palmer in the area of spirituality in education and Frank Smith in the area of learning theory, it is possible to understand these types in terms of teaching and learning. This typological study of the vision of the tree of life can yield significant insights into what it means to teach and learn.
