Globally applicable principles of sustainable development are identified, explained, and interpreted for their relevance to urban neighborhood design. The principles are filtered to exclude those that are not applicable at the neighborhood scale. The selected principles are then interpreted for application to urban neighborhoods. Planning and design guidelines that support the principles are identified from existing concepts in neighborhood design, modified for application in an existing urban context, or newly formulated where necessary.Subjects--Topical Terms:
