520 $a To understand how we answer questions like these, we must consider heuristics. Heuristics are the rules of thumb we use every day for drawing conclusions about uncertain situations, applying them as we feel appropriate based on certain visual cues we observe from available information.
520 $a The creative project component of this thesis is designed to demonstrate in action the persuasive power of chart graphics. The project takes on the problem of persuading the viewer—regardless of their initial beliefs—to support the Irish Republican Army's terrorist agenda primarily through the use of chart graphics.
