Thesis (M.A.)--California State University, Long Beach, 2002.
This project report demonstrates that a political statement can successfully be made through the use of visual metaphor and that scenic elements can evolve from realistic photographs and descriptive political reports into a working metaphor for a play. This visual metaphor can express and support the intentions of both the playwright and the director. It can also provide an arena to reflect the psychic, emotional, and physical condition of the characters in that play. This project will examine how metaphor became the basis for the set design of ¿De Donde?, produced by the University Players at California State University, Long Beach, in 1999.
