Thesis (M.Ed.)--The University of Regina (Canada), 2002.
A qualitative exploration into the nature of being a visual artist in southern Saskatchewan, this inquiry into identity examines the neonarratives of eight diverse individuals who deem themselves to be artists or are donned so by their communities. As this is a subjectively conducted inquiry, my own voice as artist is heard throughout.

By way of a promenade through the Gardens of Versailles, I expose canons embedded within the artists' experiences. Several themes emerge for hermeneutic scrutiny: perceptions, artistic processes and experiences, institutions including community, and a rage of challenging emotions. Drawing from the work of such theorists as Thomas McEvilley for context of the art world, Richard Rorty, Robyn Stewart and others for support of a neonarrative inquiry, Henry Giroux, Carol Becker, Allen Kaprow and others to inform my choice to apply both postmodern and feminist lenses, and Roger Clark and Bruce Mau to provide me with a model for encouraging the facilitation of a learning community, I was able to reflect upon the meanings relevant to me and their impact upon the community as an entity in perpetual development.

The tensions and contradictions which arise from within the circular nature of the interpretive methodology serve as catalysts for the concept of transformational revelation theorized by Stephen Dunning.
