An Ad Hoc network comprises of mobile nodes forming a temporary network on the fly without the aid of any centralized administration or standard support services. Providing Quality of Service (QoS) in an ad hoc network is a multi layer problem. QoS at the MAC layer can improve the utilization in a wireless media and for providing end-to-end QoS the routing algorithm should do proper load balancing. The following is proposed for providing quality of service: (1) Before starting its application, a source does a self admission check based on the capacity available in the network. (2) Every mobile node incorporates a distributed priority scheduling algorithm that is based on the equivalent bandwidth of its application. (3) The DSR protocol is extended to take into account the bandwidth available in the path from source to destination.Subjects--Topical Terms:
