The effects of heat stress on simple mental performance have been studied and well documented. On the contrary, much remains to be discovered regarding the effects of hot environments on time-sharing performance. 520 $a The objectives of the present research were (1) to test whether certain cognitive resources are more sensitive to heat stress effects than others in time-sharing situations, (2) to determine whether different levels of relative humidity yielding the same value of the WBGT index differentially impact time-sharing performance, and (3) to test whether the most recent NIOSH (1986) recommended heat stress standard, although based solely on physiological criteria, protects time-sharing performance as well.
