Thesis (M.L.A.)--The University of Texas at Arlington, 2003.
The present research outlines a strategy for the Council of Educators in Landscape Architecture (CELA) to implement an integrated information system for landscape architecture education and the profession. Research methodology is based on the classic organizational change/problem solving paradigm, adapted from Hersey, Blanchard, and Johnson (1996). The Assessment Phase reviews literature about the history of landscape architecture and professional education, positing that the dynamic nature of the profession necessitates using academic information as a strategic resource. The Translation to Action Phase develops an overall planning framework for design and implementation of an Academic Information System (AIS). Key data, stakeholders, and potential barriers are identified. The Implementation Phase outlines a web-based system of textual and statistical information. Three implementation phases, structured around natural events are proposed. The Future outlines areas for future research enabled by AIS, focusing on how research about landscape architecture education can advance the profession.
